Did you know that you could make your own custom stamps? I think this represents a true cultural advancement. This is something I've always wanted to do and now totally can from the comfort of my own home. These are real, "send a letter through the US Postal Service" kind of stamps. The possibilities are endless. One of my best friends thinks I'm totally insane, but think how impressed she'll be when she gets a letter from me with Ruppert, the perfect dog, gazing back at her. Oh my. Correspondence has just got a whole lot better!

The next step - get your stamps into the Smithsonian National Postal Museum:
Stamps.com Inc. has launched the "PhotoStamps of the Year" contest, where customers who order personalized stamps and choose to enter can win a chance to have their PhotoStamps displayed at the Smithsonian National Postal Museum, the company said Monday.
The contest, which began June 1 and will end May 31, 2007, will judge every PhotoStamps image on aesthetic value, originality, creativity and the story behind the image. Three winners will be selected each month and will then be entered in the grand-prize selection contest. Monthly winners will also receive a commemorative custom set of PhotoStamps with their images.
Three finalists selected from the monthly winners will be announced June 30, 2007, and will have their PhotoStamps exhibited at the Smithsonian National Postal Museum. The grand prize winner will also receive an all-expense-paid trip for two to see their PhotoStamps in the Smithsonian.
