The recent New York magazine article Urban Essentials, is a great example of how a uniform doesn't have to be boring. Now I'm not saying that we should all chase after the perfect seasonal uniform, dictated by others, as this article implies (eg. uniform of the week eg. super trendy). The way I'm talking about uniform is as a general "framework" of the things that work well, express our character comfortably and in the end, we find we want to wear over and over again. But variations on the theme are absolutely key to keeping it fresh for ourselves and others. Mixing expensive and inexpensive, vintage and new, will also make the perfect uniform unique and personal, which is really the point here. The idea of the perfect uniform should most definitely not be another way to say predictable.
