Speaking of pattern, in recent years there has been a resurgence of the use of repeated motifs and decoration in the world of industrial design, home furnishings, architecture and apparel. Wallpaper is back, patterning of architecture helps define modern design in the new century and a new decorativeness helps freshen up furniture design and interiors. And it all makes me very happy. I love simple modern forms in almost everything, and now, in combination with all the new patterned things, the simple forms feel fresher and new again. It's a good time for pattern and a new book called Patterns in Design, Art and Architecture chronicals and celebrates the many wonderful, recent examples from Tord Boontje, Hella Jongerius, Hanna Werning and Phillip Taaffe to name a few. This is a beautiful and comprehensive book for anyone interested in pattern and its new impact on modern design.
