It's a sunny, windy, cold morning. A perfect day for a long walk with the dogs. As we were turning the corner off our street we looked up and saw a birch in a neighbors yard full of goldfinches, yellow and chattering. What a treat. They're not always here so maybe these ones were from the north, wintering in our warmer climate.
And if that wasn't enough of a special moment, in the next birch tree in the yard was a red headed woodpecker cackling loudly as it hugged the trunk, looking for insects. It was shocking in it's graphic brightness against the bare tree and the brilliant blue sky.
All in all, a pretty spectacular morning!
Thanks to flickr for the wonderful goldfinch and red headed woodpecker photos.
