I'm a super big fan of cut-outs and stencil work in art. Manipulation and transformation of paper and the flat, 2-D plane. It's always fascinating to see how the removal of the surface quickly changes the piece from one dimension to multiple dimensional and layered. Shadow, emptiness, structural tension all quickly transform a piece from a drawing to a sculpture. It's wonderful.
As are the amazing pieces of art by stefan saffer. I just recently discovered his work and am totally enamored. Not only does he masterfully play with the dimension of the paper through cutting out and folding, but he does it successfully with color at the same time. It's pretty fabulous stuff, to say the least!
