I'm so liking the sculptures of joe davidson. There's a lovely mystery about his pieces, groupings of common objects or flowers, brought together by their similar forms, shared materials and a very narrow color palette. I love the interaction between the different things, as if they're in some kind of conversation or gathering with a purpose. And the common materials he's using surprise me, plain tape (above) or everyday cement (below) put to work in a very different way than they were designed for. These particular materials add another layer of depth to this work for me around the ideas delicacy, permanence and weight. Beautiful and thought provoking too. That's the kind of art I like the best.
