I'm so into these fa-hab-ulous crochet and metal brooches by lina peterson. I mean come on, the surprising mix of materials, the perfect pairing of the colors of the fiber and metal, and yes, the overall cheekiness of them, make for such a wonderful thing. I love it when someone plays with convention and the results are so fresh and compelling!

paul morrison.

Can you hear the sighing from here? The joy, the disbelief? I just can't get over the work of paul morrison. Black and white botanical perfection as far as I'm concerned. Paintings, prints, even wall murals of these marvels. I love, love, love them if you hadn't guessed. Sigh.

golden palms.

I recently discovered this amazing book of photographs by ed panar called golden palms and oh my, do I love it. Having spent my early childhood in Los Angeles, I have a primal reaction to images that remind me of the place. This collection of photographs focuses on the real LA, the one I remember through child's eyes. Twisted roots of a tree, growing over the curb like an outreaching hand, shrieking pink bougainvillea overwhelming the side of a garage and banal, stucco garages at the back of banal, mid-century apartment buildings. There's a strange stillness about these photographs, an urban landscape devoid of the people that made it. Wow, what a wonderful book indeed.

Oh my, my, am I ever loving this collage by amanda ross-ho. What a great composition and use of materials. Especially the fabulous hot pink tape. That alone makes my heart go pitter pat.

I really like this print from meartdesign. Doodle work, a personal drawing style favorite, brought to a sharp, fresh level. And I love the color palette. I'm sorry, chartreuse, grey, black and white. Does it get much better than that? Happy today.

kolkoz.

I like this piece by the artist kolkoz an awful lot. It's surrealistic and smart. What usually frames the art, is the art, when it's simply reframed. Very nice.

mona wallstrom.

I love the juxtaposition of the natural things (porcupine needles and twigs to name a few) with the modern, plasticy colors and forms of mona wallstrom's jewelry. The contrast is arresting and inviting. Undeniably intriguing they're also just plain beautiful aesthetically, a happy combination to say the least.

janet jones.

I'm liking these assemblages by janet jones an awful lot. Type, reconfigured on some, objects layered and submerged in wax on others, like some lost burial site. Very intriguing indeed.

lisa bulawsky.

Aren't these monotypes from lisa bulawsky wonderful? I love their whimsical compositions and soft, dreamlike feel. I particularly like her use of red in both of these pieces. It's feels almost like a neutral which is kind of counterintuitive when you think about it's inherent vibrancy. Ah well, lovely stuff all the same.
