subodh gupta.

Wow, the work of subodh gupta is just stunning. I can't get over this beautiful wall piece, fur-like and so organic, yet also incongruent because of the unnatural nature of the stainless steel it took to make it. Or what about this assemblage of vessels and containers below, all subtly different but unified by the similarity of their material, which is again stainless steel. It's so powerful when one variable is limited in art, as in this case where it's the material used to create it. All the differences become more distinct while at the same time, united too by their shared variable. So very cool!

judy ledgerwood.

The colors and bold, graphic motifs of the work of judy ledgerwood is exuberant and joyful. I'm loving the hand rendered quality of these big, bright celebrations of pattern and happy color. Spring is coming, they say to me, and I'm so very glad to hear it.

nancy schindler.

I'm totally grooving on these simple porcelain necklaces from nancy schindler. Each piece is uniquely glazed and has a special character of it's own. I'm particularly drawn to the all pink ones for some reason, but hm, the mottled blueish, pinkish ones are pretty fab too. Which one, which one? Not a bad dilemma to be in wouldn't you say.

ophelia chong.

I really like these collages by ophelia chong using photographic images to create the motifs of the pieces. There's a wonderful energy and character about this work making it feel so fresh, organic and modern. Yum!

douglas florian.

Wow, am I ever loving the paintings on paper by douglas florian. It's so exciting to see studies of an idea, a thought being pushed and noodled and played with. And then to see them together as a collective, compounding story as it's presented on his site, well that's an added treat. I can imagine 4 or 5 of these pieces, framed exactly the same and hung on a big, clean, white wall. Bam, hello joy!

Have you seen these lovely paintings of dogs by denise simon over at the wonderful shiny squirrel. I love their simplicity and straightforward dogness. And they also come as a set of cards below, so we doesn't have to stop at adopting just one. So sweet and fabulous!

moon and sunsets.

Last night we had a total eclipse of the moon. It was amazing and eery and beautiful. When the moon was almost totally eclipsed it was this surprising dusty orange color. My husband and neighbor and I were on our street watching the event. My neighbor said that she'd heard on the radio earlier that the orange color was a result of all the sunsets happening in the world at that moment, being projected onto the surface of the moon. I want to follow up on that to understand it better because that seems so magical and strange. I was struck with how much it sounded like something a poet might say rather than a scientist. The moon and all the sunsets in the world, how wonderful is that?

laura levine.

I live in the pacific northwest, a place full of birds, and controversy about birds. I always side with the birds which is neither here nor there, except that it's one of the many reasons I'm loving this limited edition print from 20x200 by the very talented laura levine. The composition and dense, almost obsessive detailing serve as a rich and compelling backdrop to the wonderful images of familiar birds. Innocent and decorative, I know from experience that there's a deeper story being told here. Perfect. Depth and beauty! Art doesn't get much better than that, don't you think?

I'm totally loving the photographs of yonatan zur. Each one is so colorful and abstracted, modern pictures of modern architecture and life. But oh my, seen together as they are presented on his flickr page makes my heart race a little faster. I know they're not necessarily meant to be seen this way, but they're just so beautiful presented together too.

jacquelyn greenbank.

jacquelyn greenbank crochets bonzai trees and tea parties and bikes among other things. They're beautifully crafted and lovely to look at. Plus isn't it great that we live in a world where someone will do such a thing? It makes me very happy!
