Oh my, aren't the drawings and paintings by katrina k absolutely delightful. I love how beautifully rendered they are, mixed media, drawing, paint. I also love the fact that there seems to be a very personal narrative running through all the work, like a story that continues to reveal itself a little bit more as time goes by. I'd love to see an illustrated book of that story sometime.

ludovik boden.

I'm really loving these sculptures by ludovik boden. Made from bronze and beautifully crafted, I love the story of human community, architecture and home that they evoke. I think they are so very beautiful.

japanese toy design favorites.

These are my two favorite sketches from a wonderful recent post on bibliodyssey about japanese toy design. Aren't they just breathtaking? I love their color and the strange, whimsical quality of the objects themselves. Boy, would I love to have these two beauties framed and hanging somewhere in a place of honor. Totally amazing.

crystal barlow.

I'm really grooving on these fabulous illustrations by crystal barlow. They're so very modern and lively. I love her compositions and fresh, surprising use of color. Fab, indeed!

I've been meaning to write about the amazing paintings of elizabeth schuppe for quite a while now and thankfully, a kind reader sent me a nudge the other day. It was the perfect reminder of how very beautiful and sublime her work is. I love their palettes and the undulation of color in her work, sometimes calm and dreamy, other times sharper and more urgent. Either way, I'm there for the gorgeous ride!

carlos estevez.

Isn't the work of carlos estevez amazing? I love the rich storytelling that underlies his work. Beyond the fact that each piece is so beautiful crafted and conceived, it feels like the deeper questions of life are being explored here. Mysterious, timeless and full of clues, I feel like I need to take some time to contemplate their meaning. I love it when that happens.

otto heino.

I seem to be on a bit of a ceramics jag these days, why, I don't know. But there you have it and here we have otto heino's amazing porcelain plate to feed my habit. I love, love the color and texture of the glazes he uses. Buttery, bold and appealing. So very, very nice indeed.

jennifer judd mcgee.

I've been writing this blog long enough now that I've covered a lot of artists whose work I would rank among my favorites. The problem is I could have written about them a couple of years ago and though I try not to repeat myself too often (though sometimes I do so without realizing...scary) sometimes you just have to share a favorite again. So in that spirit, let's all revel in the beauty of jennifer judd mcgee's wonderful drawings again. I love the line work, the happy spirit of the motifs, the smart compositions. Today I'm featuring the black line drawings on printed pages because well, they're just so fabulous. Lovely!

barbro johansson.

I love this ceramic piece above by barbro johansson on so many levels. The immediate draw is that it confuses me a bit because it doesn't look like it's made from clay on first glance. I keep thinking its constructed from metal and enamel for some reason. And then of course, there's the perfect form, the liberally cut structure, the applied rosettes that make it feel like a crown or a basket. And finally it's the glaze work, all glassy and deliciously icy. Sigh.

And what about this wonderful petaled wreath below. Flouncy and active, but also still at the same time. And again the glaze, glassy but not fully covering the form which happily highlights the shape and layers of the piece that much more.

Yep, it's true love.

nikolay saveliev.

I am totally grooving on this piece by nikolay saveliev. I love the science meets artistic exploration aspect of it. I love the sense of exploration and study, like some universal pattern of nature is being deconstructed and analyzed. I love the drawings themselves, stand alone and also together in a grouping. Sigh. I just love this piece.
