I really love these paintings by retna. The skilled, powerful rendering of such rich layering of meaning and story is captivating. And having just returned from a Los Angeles that seemed to be more covered in text and writing than I've noticed before, I'm particularly drawn to this work today. I love the focus on hand written language as communication in a time when digital conversation and code is also so prevalent. One isn't necessarily better than another form, but both become more important because of the other. And please, when it's as beautiful as this who would ever be sad about that?
