Cha007_sacredspace151

I'm liking these small mixed media pieces by isabelle scurry chapman an awful lot. Sacred, intimate shelters, decorative and reverent at the same time. These lovely pieces make me want to build something like this in my backyard, quiet, private and safe, and in the absence of that in the immediate future, at least imagine I could do so at some point. I like it when art reminds me of the possibilities in life, especially in such a pleasing and contemplative way.

I'm loving these simple, graphite studies by frederick hayes. Cityscapes, architecture, geometry. They're modern and powerful in their narrow scope in both subject matter and medium, and oh so pleasing to view because of it. Love them!

Normal_willisart_misc17

I'm just loving the rich, energetic drawings of wesley willis. Urban scenes, landscapes, fish eye perspective in some, all rendered with a distinctive, enthusiastic hand. I love the fact that the line work is celebrated here, no need to make these scenes feel photographic or perfect. Regardless, they still feel so realistic capturing both the details of place and the overall mood of the day in one effort. Mm, I just love this work.

linzie hunter's matchbook cover collection.

Aren't these vintage matchbook covers from the very talented linzie hunter's flickr collection fabulous? I love the simple, graphic layouts, so timeless and modern. And the color palettes are amazing too. These humble, utilitarian matchbook covers are treated with such respect and consideration through good design. A wonderful reminder that everything, even the most basic of things, deserves a little design attention and love.

My goodness I'm swooning over this beautiful work by greer honeywill. The crafting of the structures themselves are remarkable, delicate and strong at the same time. What I also truly love is the use of shadow and projection that gives another layer and dimension to these already compelling forms. Light, wood, open space, hard structure all add up to a very modern and smart exploration of architecture and emotion. So very, very lovely indeed!

I'm totally grooving on the wide ranging work of the artist kim hiorthøy. How about these wonderful house sculptures and dimensional drawings on plywood? I'd love them hung together in my house in real life. Oh yes I would. To see more of his amazing drawings and installations link here. I know you won't be disappointed.

carrie marill.

Moderninterior

Once in a while I stumble across an artist who's work touches on a number of my particular subject loves, and that is most definitely the case with carrie marill. Not only are her paintings and drawings amazing in their simple, flat, modern depiction of birds, houses, mushrooms and landscape but their compositions are surprising and the color palettes fresh. Beyond the fact that they are lovely to look at, there's a deeper commentary going on here that's very compelling. The intersections between human civilization and nature are being both sensitively and meaningfully explored in the art she's making. To say that I'm swooning here is an understatement. I love, love, love this work.

I'm totally in love with the amazing hand of these beautiful oil paintings by d. j. roberts. There's an intensity and warmth about his work, even when the subject matter is subdued and dark. But for me it's the sunnier, more gentle paintings like these that really capture my heart. They're just lovely, pure and simple.

10_paintings_cabinet_2000_oil_on__2

These oil paintings of interiors by jan de vliegher are so intense in terms of color and light. I love the blurry, out of focus hand of these depictions of obviously wealthy homes, as if the artist is stoutly refusing to showcase the details. I have no idea if that's really the case but the soft, glowing view of these interiors actually make them more accessible and appealing. Which isn't necessarily the idea the original owners were going for when you think about it. Undeniably grand, I'm loving the fact that the artist has made our experience of the place his own. They're just wonderful on so many levels.
