I'm really grooving on these illustrations by kate williamson. Her clear, confident line work and simple colorations make for a fresh and very appealing result. I love the character and feel of her drawings, shown here in this lovely study of blossoms from her year in japan collection above and with this wonderful dog illustration from her collection of pet portraits below. So great!

I'm a big fan of the site deleted images. I love the beauty of so much of what we throw away. And this site celebrates that very thing in the realm of photography. Those blurry, over-exposed, unplanned shots that, when isolated and shown in a different format, suddenly have a mystery and magic about them you'd never have seen otherwise. Here are a couple of such images, featuring a personal favorite subject of mine.

I'm in LA on business for a couple of days and I miss my ruppert and flora, so I thought I'd post this lovely painting by gary goodman to remind me of my beloved pooches. I love the niave, rough quality of the hand used in this piece. Quick, gestural, wild. Just like my pups. Silly, I know, but that's the joy of being able to write a blog about what I love. That and the happy fact that there is so much wonderful art like this out there to pick from.

I love felt. I love dogs. It's not much of a leap to think I'll love the book fleece dog found at the wonderful etsy site felt cafe, east+west.

This isn't even my cat but I thought the photo was so lovely. I like the grey fabric, grey cat, furry cat, furry fabric relationships. And that pose just says happy, content kitty, which just makes me smile. So great! Thanks to mezereem for the great pic!

vintage dog photo collection.

I love vintage photos of dogs. I'm a big time dog lover so I find these old photos of people and their pets very moving. Recorded in a time when photography wasn't such a simple process, these photos show me that the loving bond between humans and dogs is timeless, deep and enduring. It's been a priority to capture the connection between ourselves and dogs in pictures and art, ever since we could capture it in some way. I've found a few of these sweet photos in 2nd hand stores and estate sales over the years. Well the other day, a kind friend sent me an envelope filled with some old photos she'd collected for me. What a kind and happy surprise! So now I have the beginning of a "collection" of vintage dog photos which are now happily gathering on flickr. Good times.
