hella jongerius.

Sometimes you love something so much you can come to take them for granted. That's the story for me with hella jongerius' work. I love almost every single thing she makes and yet I rarely speak of her work here. Love, adore, covet. Every word of admiration I can muster applies here. Plus other words like revolutionary, smart, stunning, beautiful, magical...oh, I could just go on and on.

I love this poster by nagai kazumasha found at the wonderful but does it float.

jane mcdevitt.

I love the simplicity and rough expression of these russian animal matchbox covers found at jane mcdevitt's truly amazing flickr set. Beautifully composed individually, it's so cool to see them as a collection happily relating to each other through a narrow color palette. I'd love these beauties poster sized, hanging together comfortably in chez birdie!

I'd love to see the design for a living world exhibit at the cooper-hewitt in person. I'm in love with these beautiful things made by these great designers specifically for the show. Also here's a nice article from creativity describing the show. Yes, indeed, I want to see it!

Romantic, inspiring though admittedly unrealistic given the realities of my daily life, I'm not stopped from wanting to live in the world of tine k home.

A fun flickr collection of polaroids of logos from a set of 1960's time life books on nature by patrick tobin. I love the softness of the colors thanks to the polaroid photography process. And aren't the logos wonderful? Great individually, but so much more so as a group. So very nice!

Did you happen to catch these gorgeous graphics by heads of state for the article the big fix in last week's new york times magazine? A tough article made more beautiful thanks to smart, fresh, modern (and yes, a bit nostalgic) design. Just what good design is supposed to do!

mutts like me.

 

Ok so I love this poster by shepard fairey for the animal adoption group adopt a pet on so many levels. Stunningly beautiful artwork first and foremost. A cause so utterly worthy and personally very near and dear to my heart. A concept that not only leverages a phrase from our president elect (mutts like me) but also the iconic image from the election. Lot's of ways to get involved: adopt a pet, donate some money, buy the limited edition print when it goes on sale. And finally, on a more personal note, this lovely image bares a striking resemblance to a certain beloved rescue pooch who lives in our household, sir ruppert. Like I said, perfection on so many levels!
