Look at this fantastic blanket I recently found on reference library the other day. My goodness what a piece of art, practical yes, but stunningly beautiful nonetheless. I love it when something so utilitarian can also be so inspiring!

Good morning happy dot patterns from mina perhonen. Good morning happy patterns I'd love a skirt in. They're ever so simple and lovely and sometimes that's the best thing of all.

ikea in the snow?

81176_pe210656_s4_2

I'm going to ikea this morning to look for some storage containers and some fabric. I hope they have some wonderful patterns for me to snap up to make a couple of fresh, springy skirts. It's chilly here (there are rumors of snow this weekend which blows my mind given that it was in the high 70's last Saturday) so I'm going to pretend it's going to be warm enough in the near future to wear a sassy skirt made from cheery, happy fabrics. A girl can hope right?

Look at these amazing vintage textiles I found at kim kight's fabulous flickr site. I love the hand and color and graphic imagery on these tea towels. I love them I tell you, as I do so many vintage textile patterns. Which is why this site is such an amazing find! What an exceptional collection of vintage textile patterns. A person could quite simply get lost in the beauty of them all!

I'm seem to be on a sewing jag, which isn't something I've done since I was a teen. I'm shocked at the muscle memory of a skill I thought I'd forgotten. So many years and yet I can remember the basic principles of putting in a zipper and making a button hole. Which isn't to say I'm any good at it but still it's SO fun. All I'm making are simple a-line and wrap around skirts. I have stacks of fabric I've collected over the years, so I don't need to go out and get any new stuff. Though I want to of course. I'm so obsessed with this reborn hobby, that I'm even lusting after textile patterns when I see artwork I love. And tops on that list of love for patterned work that I'd love to have on the wall AND wear are these beauties by the talented annie galvin. I mean come on, aren't they fabulous! I love their simple, confident motifs and the overall energy of these pieces. And don't get me started on the color palettes. Mm, yes. Very nice as artwork and just as nice as a fabulous skirt to wear this spring!

I love the textile designs of stig lindberg. Oh let's be honest here, I love pretty much everything designed by stig lindberg. Modern, crafted, organic and amazing color, whether it's textiles or ceramics, it just doesn't get much better than this. True perfection.

I'm really liking these prints by andrew douglas underwood. I love the fresh color palette, happy composition and the simplified leaf motifs. Terrific as editioned prints (for sale at the wonderful little paper planes), I'd also love them as big, marimekko-esque textile patterns. Goodness abounds.

universal pattern.

H_portugal_lisboa1

At times I'm amazed at how different people are and then I stumble across a site like universal pattern and I'm reminded that in many ways that's not the case. One humble textile pattern seems to be a shining example of that very fact. Red gingham it appears is a universal pattern, originating from, well, everywhere. Proof positive that we're certainly more alike that we sometimes think!

alison foshee.

Picture_2_2

This work from alison foshee, made from everyday labels, is making me swoon. The patterning and color are magical and familiar all at the same time. I love the use of a common thing, designed for a different purpose and then appropriated for the making of art. In this case, I'm gaga about the magnificant results.
