"And then I remember something that is so simple, and yet is so easily forgotten in all the busyness of my day and life. I remember that I have a disease. I have a disease and I'm as "sick" as the day I was diagnosed. One missed bolus before a meal and my blood sugar is 487. One missed dose of insulin and there you have it, plain as day. I have a disease."

Birdie, you have such a way with words and expressing yourself. I admire how such a simple statement can touch me so deeply.

You are so right, and next time I careen into the 400's, I'm going to do my very best to remember how sick I am without insulin. And how I struggle, still, even with it, of course.

P.S. I have big resistance to the CGMS. I love my pump and test a lot, but the CGMS is not something I want to tackle just yet, so I applaud your courage for coming to a sort of peace about it, and putting your health first (eventually). I'm not there...yet. Perhaps I will be...eventually. :)

Such a shock when you see a number like that, but then again its only a number, one number in the basket of thousands. Yeah we'll feel like crap for that day or perhaps days after, but then we'll get back up on the horse and continue. What other choice do we have but to live our lives ... the best we can. I'm right there with you, struggling, living. You are not alone.

I love you Birdie Loo, for sharing your gift of introspection with us, for the talent you have in writing about the thoughts you have, and mostly for being who you are.

You and your incredible posts have often changed how I see myself and our diabetes, and how we wrestle with so many things in our minds.

Thank you.

Jen

That first section of this post, is so amazingly ....true. I guess that is the most correct word. You described how it was, exactly, for me when I was diagnosed. Literally, that one number, changed my life. And you summed up being diagnosed and having diabetes oh so perfectly in a few sentences.
You have an amazing skill for writing and your deep insights show in your posts.
