Great modern design is now often also great sustainable design. There doesn't have to be any trade off between the two. Branch, is a wonderful site featuring products for the home that are decidedly both. I particularly love transglass carafes and tumblers designed by Tord Boontje and Emma Woffenden for Artecnica. Elegant, repurposed, simple and smart. Sounds modern to me.
