I am loving these crocheted corals which are a part of the institute of figuring's coral reef project. They describe this project as a "a woolly celebration of the intersection of higher geometry and feminine handicraft, and a testimony to the disappearing wonders of the marine world." Oh, I wish I could see it in person. The photo's are amazing so I can only just imagine what they're like in person. Beautifully constructed and collaboratively made, it's smart and whimsical and serious all at the same time. This project is such a great example of how craft and science and politics are all converging today. And, it's beautiful to look at too. Win, win, as far as I'm concerned.
The beautiful piece above (as far as I can gather) is done by anitra menning, evelyn harding and sarah simons and the gorgeous one below is done by sarah floret.
